Following Jacob Coxon's resignation from Anthropic, experts believe an AI risk tipping point has been reached, as millions now understand that AI companies have been risking human lives, a fact experts have known for years.
In response, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei proposed "pacing the frontier," a plan for a one to two year slowdown to make profound progress on technical safety measures. This proposal received endorsements from Sam Altman and Elon Musk. However, this measure is considered insufficient to provide the confidence humanity needs that AI will not cause harm.
