Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman, 32 years old, sustained facial fractures on Sunday after being hit in the head by a foul ball. The incident occurred while Bregman was standing near the on deck circle, preparing for his turn at bat. His teammate, Michael Busch, checked his swing and fouled off a pitch from the Cincinnati Reds’ Luis Mey, with the ball striking Bregman directly in the face. This information was reported by ESPN.
Following the impact, Bregman immediately jogged toward the Cubs’ dugout, covering the left side of his face with his hand. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for X rays and CT scans to assess the full extent of his injury. Despite suffering facial fractures, Bregman has expressed a hope to return to play for the team’s postseason.
