A British woman, Nurat Osman, was successfully rescued by police in Malawi after she had been kidnapped last week. Ms. Osman was abducted on 11 September around 12 30pm from outside her residence in Blantyre, a southern city within Malawi. Her rescue was carried out by police during an operation that involved a shootout with the individuals suspected of her kidnapping.
During the rescue shootout, four of the alleged abductors were killed. Before the successful recovery, the police in Malawi had issued a reward for information regarding her whereabouts. A sum of 30 million Malawi kwacha, equivalent to 12,950 British pounds, was offered for details leading to Ms. Osman's safe return and the arrest of the perpetrators.
