Three endangered African wild dog brothers completed the longest ever recorded single journey by any mammal from the continent last year. As young dogs, they undertook a "dispersal" from their original pack in Zambia. This epic eight month odyssey covered more than 2,500 miles, or 4,100 kilometers, navigating a human dominated landscape and facing various perils along their route.
During their extensive travels, the three siblings dodged dangerous cars and hunters. They also had to avoid bushmeat snares as they searched for a new home. Their ultimate goal was to establish their own new territory, find mates, and begin their own families, eventually finding a haven on the African savannah.
