Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed support for a ban on diesel exports, an idea some United States politicians advocate. This proposed measure aims to curb the soaring cost of energy. Diesel prices have recently rallied to record highs in both Europe and the United States. On Tuesday, a gallon of diesel fuel in the United States reached an average of $6.53, marking the highest average on record and an increase of over 75 percent compared to a year ago.
These record high diesel prices stem from wars in Iran and Ukraine, which have sharply reduced exports from some of the biggest producers, including Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. However, an industry trade group cautioned that the proposed export ban would prove counterproductive. The group warned that implementing such a plan would ultimately lead to even higher prices for gasoline.
