Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Meta VR glasses at Meta Connect on Wednesday night, presenting them as a potential next frontier for virtual reality hardware. These new glasses combine the form factor of regular smart glasses with the stereoscopic 3D and virtual reality capabilities of a Quest headset. Set to launch in 2027, the Meta VR glasses will start at 1,299 dollars. This contrasts significantly with the Quest 3, which is currently available for 599 dollars, making the new VR glasses literally more than twice the cost.
Regarding specifications, the Meta VR glasses feature a Micro OLED display with 2412 2288 resolution per eye, a 70 by 66 degree field of view, a Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB of starting storage. Controllers are not included but are compatible. In comparison, the Quest 3 offers an LCD display with 2064 2208 resolution per eye and a 110 degree field of view. The Quest 3 notably outperforms the new VR glasses in certain areas despite its lower price.
