Apple has agreed to pay a 250 million dollar settlement in a class action lawsuit involving US iPhone owners. The tech giant faced allegations of exaggerating the capabilities of its Apple Intelligence features. The lawsuit stemmed from Apple's 2024 launch of the iPhone 16 series, which was marketed as introducing an enhanced Siri and an AI tool suite called Apple Intelligence. The company also stated these features would come to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
However, the class action claimed these promised features did not materialize as advertised and that Apple knew it could not deliver them on its stated timeline. An updated Siri only recently launched in beta, two years after its original expectation. The lawsuit asserted that Apple's marketing violated consumer protection laws by encouraging purchases based on non existent features. Apple has not admitted fault but is paying the settlement to impacted US iPhone buyers. To be eligible, individuals must reside in and have purchased an iPhone in the US.
