Players have the option to destroy these virtual cameras, collecting in game cash from their remnants. This interactive element allows players to directly engage with the newly implemented surveillance system within the game.
Kolman's primary objective with GTALPR is to provide an interesting way for players to learn about the technological and political world around them. He aims for players to feel what it is like to be constantly watched, making surveillance tangible within a game modeled on an American city and familiar to millions. In the real world, Flock automated license plate readers capture vehicle images, enabling police to search for vehicles and receive alerts about those on watchlists, a technology pitched to help law enforcement.
