Telecommunications company Ooma has partnered with Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet service, to introduce Ooma StarDial. This new service aims to provide affordable home phone service to users in rural and remote locations. StarDial will enable existing Starlink customers to add landline capabilities to their internet connection, allowing reliable phone calls where cellular service is unreliable. Ooma's senior vice president of marketing, Jim Gustke, noted that millions of Starlink consumers in hard to reach places deserve an easy and affordable home phone option.
Users will purchase a base station and handset for $129.99, incurring no monthly service charges, though taxes and fees will apply. StarDial includes unlimited nationwide calling, 911 service, caller ID, call waiting, and voicemail, with most customers able to keep their existing phone number. The service is suitable for various residences, including cabins, RVs, campers, vans, and boats. This initiative addresses connectivity struggles faced by residents in remote areas of states like Hawaii, Vermont, and Maine, who often experience poor cell service.
