A new report on Oregon's data center industry reveals 111 operational facilities occupy 22.1 million square feet. These data centers account for 23 percent of the state's total retail energy sales in 2025. This study is the first of its kind since the AI driven data center discourse began, detailing the industry's scale and energy demands.
The report also details 32 additional data centers under construction or in planning, adding 6.9 million square feet. Researchers project Oregon's data center energy consumption will rise to nearly 25 terawatt hours by 2030. This demand would represent 31 to 32 percent of all state electricity, matching 2.5 million homes' usage. The study indicates that accommodating this significant growth will require new electricity resources, transmission capacity, and coordinated infrastructure planning.
