Googlebooks, a new category of premium artificial intelligence laptops, are now available for preorder, aiming to challenge MacBooks head to head. These machines, announced at Google I/O earlier this year, are positioned as a "third option" in the computing market beyond traditional Mac and PC choices. They operate using Googlebook OS, a brand new desktop class operating system that integrates features from Android and ChromeOS with native Gemini AI capabilities.
Preorders for Googlebooks officially commenced on September 21 at 9 a.m. ET, with units scheduled to ship across the U.S. on October 4. Models are offered by Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus, with prices beginning at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14. Each device includes at least 16GB of RAM, a minimum of 14 hours of battery life, dedicated NPU chips for local AI functions, and a complimentary 12 month offer for Google AI Pro.
